Final Fantasy XV: Episode Ardyn Is Out Next Month

Fans of Final Fantasy XV have a little more content heading their way next month in the form of Final Fantasy XV: Episode Ardyn. Episode Ardyn is the only piece of character-based DLC to make the cut out of the four pieces of content Square Enix originally promised last year. As a result it is also expected to be the last.

Using this style of extended storytelling for individual character development is nothing new for Final Fantasy XV. Way back when fans were treated to standalone stories featuring Gladiolus, Prompto, and Ignis. These stories also filled in gaps in the main game where each member of your party was momentarily absent.

The other “Episodes” originally announced in Final Fantasy XV’s second batch of content centred around Lunafreya, Aranea, and Noctis. Sadly Square Enix cancelled all DLC currently in development for the game with the exception of Episode Ardyn back in November 2018.

Final Fantasy XV: Episode Ardyn is set to tell the tale of Ardyn Izunia, formerly Ardyn Lucis Caelum. Ardyn is the primary antagonist of the main game and an ancestor of its main protagonist, Prince Noctis. Ardyn’s story is a tale of “suffering, death, and resurrection,” which is set to reveal the reasons for his deep-seated hatred of the Lucian royal family and also lend insight into his disdain for the Astrals – the gods of Eos.

In addition to this Square Enix has also announced it will be releasing a Final Fantasy XV novel. The novel, entitled The Dawn of The Future, is suspected to be the same alternate universe story that the canned Episode Noctis DLC set out to tell. All we know for now is that it will detail what came next for the world of Eos after the conclusion of Final Fantasy XV’s main story, and that it is set hit Japanese shelves in April. Square Enix have said that an international version is also planned.
