During the most recent Nintendo Direct presentation it was announced that a port of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice would be making its way to the Nintendo Switch sometime this Spring.
Originally developed by Ninja Theory, Hellblade is a fantastically dark and thought-provoking dive into Celtic and Norse mythology. The story follows Senua, a young Pictish woman suffering from psychosis following the tragic loss of her lover at the hands of Viking raiders. Senua must brave the horrors of Helheim and her own mind in order to liberate the soul of her beloved.
The port has been in development since early last year and will support the Switch’s Motion Control feature, allowing players the option to utilise it in Focus Mode when looking for hidden runes and symbols in the game environment.
No official announcement has been made regarding the port’s developer, however Kotaku UK have cited a source confirming that Poland-based company Q-LOC have been handling the project. Q-LOC are recognised internationally as one of the gaming industry’s best porting vendors, but they also provide a host of other services such as translation, localisation, and concept art. Q-LOC were also responsible for porting Dark Souls Remastered to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, which by all accounts was a quality game.
If you’ve yet to play Hellblade and own a Nintendo Switch, I highly recommend you pick up a copy when the port becomes available. At the time of writing no precise release date has been set, but further details will be shared as they are announced.
