The OP, the same company that produces licenced editions of classic board games such as Star Wars Monopoly and Lord of the Rings Risk, have announced that they will be partnering with Games Workshop and Square Enix to bring us Talisman: Kingdom Hearts Edition.
Talisman: The Magical Quest Game has been around for some time, over 35 years in fact, but perhaps isn’t as well-known as other Games Workshop properties such as Warhammer/40K and Necromunda. Talisman is now in its revised fourth edition and has enjoyed multiple expansions since publishing of the game swapped hands from Black Industries (a subsidiary of Games Workshop) to Fantasy Flight Games back in 2008.
The Kingdom Hearts edition of Talisman will work much in the same way as the original. The game is playable for two to six people, with the playable characters for this edition being Sora, Riku, Kairi, Donald, Goofy, and King Mickey. Like the original Talisman game board, this edition’s map will be separated into three distinct regions, which will be based on selected worlds from the original Kingdom Hearts. Players will have to roll in order to move through these areas and pick up adventure cards to fight Heartless, obtain items and equipment, and generally progress the game.
In addition to the custom themed game board and avatar miniatures, the game will also include Kingdom Hearts themed six-sided dice and Munny currency. In an official press release, the OP said players would need to “acquire the needed Strength and Magic to seal the Door to Darkness and keep Heartless from consuming the communal worlds.”
The OP announced a licencing deal with Games Workshop earlier this year, and Talisman: Kingdom Hearts Edition is the first offering to come from that partnership. Here’s to hoping it’s also not the last.
