At a special event in Cupertino yesterday Apple officially announced Apple Arcade, their own premium video game subscription service.
Apple Arcade will be available for all Apple platforms including iPhones, iPads, iMacs, MacBooks, and Apple TVs. The service will provide unlimited access to premium games for a single monthly subscription fee. All games available through Apple Arcade will be playable offline and it has been confirmed that Apple Arcade games will feature no adverts or in-app purchases.
The service will feature over 100 games at launch, made up from existing iOS titles curated by Apple as well as some brand new exclusive games. All Apple Arcade games will also feature shared save files that can be accessed across devices.
More than a few developers are interested in Apple Arcade, with the likes of Sega, Konami, Giant Squid, and Mistwalker studios all listed as making titles for the service. Watch the video below to see some of the creators talking about their games and their enthusiasm for the platform, including renowned Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi.
No details were released on the price of the subscription fee, but Apple Arcade is set to be launched in 150 countries worldwide this Autumn. You can find out more at the official Apple Arcade webpage.
