In Sony’s most recent State of Play livestream, the remake of PS1 hack and slash classic MediEvil got a new trailer.
The new trailer starts off with some backstory and then dives headlong into gameplay footage. The original MediEvil was released back in 1998 and was the first game ever developed by SCE’s Cambridge studio. The game combined hack and slash combat with 3D platforming to produce something new, which went on to influence game design for many years to come. And it sold well enough to earn ‘Platinum’ status on the PS1.
The game’s narrative is dark but doesn’t take itself too seriously, it’s chock-full of that very British style of humour that is equal parts dry and slapstick. Think Monty Python in a Tim Burton setting. The original MediEvil was lauded for the vast arsenal of bonkers weapons at Sir Dan’s disposal, and from the looks of it the 2019 remake will hold true to its predecessor in that regard.
The MediEvil remake is set to release on October 25th, and will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive.
