Sony’s newly-formed production company, PlayStation Productions, has just announced its first project: a Twisted Metal television series.
Sony Pictures Entertainment Chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra confirmed the project during an investor relations presentation yesterday. Not many details were shared beyond the fact that the project is in development, with Vinciquerra explaining: “We have a TV show we just agreed to get underway that will be developed from the IP on PlayStation, it’s called Twisted Metal. It’s a game that was put out many years ago and we’re going to develop a TV series around that.”
He also stated that the Uncharted movie is in “advanced development.” Whatever that means.
The first game in the Twisted Metal series came out way back in 1995, and it’s most recent entry was a reboot released in 2012 for the PS3. Around the same time a Twisted Metal film was announced, but ultimately went nowhere. If nothing else it’s good to see that the project has found new life as a TV series.
