We’ve had quite a few bits of new info regarding the next generation of Pokémon games this week, so let’s go over the big stuff.
New Pokémon
Pokémon Sword and Shield are the eight generation of Pokémon games and will take place in the brand-new region of Galar, which is based on the UK. As with almost all Pokémon games, a new game and a new region means the introduction of new Pocket Monsters to catch and train. This time around is no different, though the offering of new critters seems somewhat smaller than usual. I’m sure they’ll make up in quality what they lack in quantity. Those who read our last Pokémon article will already be familiar with the three new starter Pokémon: Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble.

New Legendaries
You might’ve noticed that a couple of important additions to that list were missing. Well that’s because I felt they deserved their own section. Zacian and Zamazenta, the Legendary Pokémon for the Sword and Shield games, have been revealed. Marvel at them in all their glory.
Zacian will feature in Pokémon Sword and likewise Zamazenta will feature in Pokémon Shield. Both of these wolf-like Pokémon have similar colour palettes and each carries the motif of its game. Zacian can be seen holding a sword in its jaws, whilst Zamazenta boasts shield-like armour on the front of its body.
Zacian (??? Type)
“Zacian attacks so gracefully that its movements can even captivate its opponents. It holds what appears to be a sword in its mouth.”
Zamazenta (??? Type)
“Zamazenta’s regal and majestic movements overwhelm any opponents that dare face it. Its body is covered in what seems to be a shield.”
Release Date
Pokémon Sword and Shield will launch worldwide on November 15th 2019, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. As of Wednesday’s Pokémon Direct livestream, a special bundle edition containing both Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield has been up for preorder. Here’s a look at that, and the cover art for the individual titles as well.
