E3 2019: EA Play Summary

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Gameplay Reveal

EA kicked off their E3 2019 showcase with 14 glorious minutes of Jedi: Fallen Order gameplay. The section shown was from a story mission set on the Wookiee home world of Kashyyyk. Those familiar with Rogue One will no doubt recognise a certain guerrilla leader when watching the footage. The section showed-off a beautifully fleshed-out game environment and a variety of ways that our protagonist, Cal Kestis, can move through it.

We got a good look at combat mechanics too, of which there are many. Developers Respawn Entertainment previously stated that combat mechanics would be specialised for tackling specific enemies, ensuring that combat remains a tactical experience requiring thought and caution.

Battlefield 5 Pacific Theatre Campaign

Battlefield 5 will be seeing a major content drop later this year in the form of Chapter 5, described as “Awakening the Giant: an all-out invasion in a new theatre of war.”
The DLC will focus on the conflict between the US and Japanese forces on the Pacific front of World War II, featuring The Battle of Iwo Jima as one of its primary set pieces. New items, weapons, and vehicles used by both sides in the conflict will be added to the game.

Chapter 4 of Battlefield 5 will also drop on June 27th, giving players access to two new maps: Al Sundan and Marita. DICE also said that in August, max rank for players will be increased from 50 to 500, and that currency and exclusive emblems would be awarded to players for ranking up. Private matches are also due to be added to the game this September.

Apex Legends Season 2

Respawn Entertainment also announced the Battle Pass for Season 2 of Apex Legends during the EA Play livestream, which comes with a bunch of new content for the game. Called Battle Charge, the new Season will include a new weapon, a new Legend, and “a new way to play the game.”

Wattson, Apex Legends’ tenth character, is a scientist/engineer who specialises in territory control. She can make use of barricades and drones to dominate a portion of the map and control the flow of battle. Wattson provides a much-needed alternative to the usual run-and-gun tactics of the other nine Legends’ characters.

FIFA 20: VOLTA Football

FIFA is bringing back FIFA Street, at least in spirit, with the introduction of VOLTA Football to FIFA 20. This new addition to the game is a career mode that promises extensive personalisation and customisation options (Not unlike the MyCareer mode present in NBA 2K) whilst reviving FIFA Street’s style of play, tricks and all.

“From an underpass in Amsterdam, to a neighbourhood cage in London, or a Tokyo rooftop, experience a new side of The World’s Game with VOLTA Football.”

The Sims 4: Island Living

Lastly EA announced the Island Living expansion for The Sims 4, which allows your Sims to relax and catch some rays on the island of Sulani. In addition to a new location to explore and a host of new activities to take part in, the expansion also adds a couple of new career options: Conservationist and Lifeguard. Also – Mermaids!

The Sims 4: Island Living is out on PC June 21st, and will be coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One July 16th.
