Amazon Game Studios have announced that they are working on a new Lord of the Rings MMORPG for PC and console.
The game will be free-to-play and is based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s literary works, not the Peter Jackson film trilogy. Amazon has also confirmed that the project is unrelated to their upcoming Lord of the Rings TV series, which will be set during the Second Age.
Amazon’s internal studio boasts talented staff who have previously worked on highly successful MMOs like Everquest and World of Warcraft. Working alongside them is Burbank-based Athlon Games, who have experience in developing and publishing free-to-play games for PC and console.
