CD Projekt Red recently hosted a livestream to share a 15 minute-long gameplay video. The video, entitled Deep Dive, introduced fans to some of the people we’ll meet and places we’ll explore in Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City. We also got a good look at the character creation interface, as well as insights into character builds and skill trees.
Most of the gameplay footage is from an area of Night City called Pacifica. Originally intended as a tourist hotspot, the area is now a haven for street gangs and other ne’er-do-wells. The video follows Cyberpunk’s protagonist V as they infiltrate an abandoned shopping mall to resolve a dispute between two rival gangs: The Animals and The Voodoo Boys.
With regard to Cyberpunk 2077’s character customisation options, it seems we will be able to tune our character towards two main strategies: Stealth or Brute Force. Though there is no rigid class structure in place, so players will be able to make their character whatever combination of punchy-punchy and sneaky-sneaky they like.
Strong Solo character builds are the heavy hitters of Cyberpunk 2077. They favour a straightforward approach, often using violence and firepower to get the job done. They feature enhanced strength and are able to force locked doors, use enemies as human shields, and gain an enhanced melee combat move set.
Netrunners on the other hand are less aggressive in their approach. Rather than put themselves in danger or get their hands dirty, they prefer to get the job done through less conventional means. They are expert hackers who can tap into local networks, equipment, and even an enemy’s own cybernetic implants. Everything from vending machines to service robots to security systems are fair game if you’ve got the skills.
Cyberpunk 2077 releases April 16th 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
