Releasing on the same day as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and the MediEvil remake, Obsidian and Private Division’s The Outer Worlds has its work cut out for it. Thankfully, its comical and absurd launch trailer goes a long way to making it stand out from the crowd.
The story of The Outer Worlds is fluid, and will move in any number of ways depending on the player’s choices. Allegedly a big decision near the start of the game will inform all subsequent choices, but in the main players will be free to choose as they see fit, with every one of their decisions having a knock-on effect on the narrative.
The Outer Worlds is set in an alternate future that diverged from our own timeline at the start of the 20th Century. Thus the retro-futuristic aesthetic and the clever use of T.Rex’s “20th Century Boy” as the backing track for the trailer.
The Outer Worlds will release on the 25th October for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
